Governor Taft Honors Reynolds and Reynolds for its Energy-Efficient Research Park Campus
DAYTON, Ohio, Dec. 11, 2003 -- The Reynolds and Reynolds Company announced that it has received the 2003 Governor's Award for Excellence in Energy Efficiency. Reynolds was one of seven honorees to receive this year's award, which is presented to individuals, businesses and organizations that employ effective approaches to improve energy efficiency, the environment and Ohio's economic competitiveness.
Reynolds was recognized for its energy efficiency in the development of its Research Park campus. The Reynolds Real Estate team, by coordinating the efforts of vendor partners, implemented a strategy that enables the campus to operate in a highly efficient and cost-effective manner.
"The award represents the success of a number of energy-related projects we've performed over the last two years," said Lee Sturgill, director of Real Estate for Reynolds. "We're proud to be recognized for meeting the challenge to use our resources strategically and cost-effectively, and for making the Reynolds Research Park facility one of the most energy-efficient corporate campuses in the state." Perfection Group, Inc, a full service design build mechanical contractor based in Cincinnati, Ohio, partnered with Reynolds to execute the needed energy efficiency controls and upgrades.
"After Reynolds approached us with the challenge, we quickly analyzed their energy consumption profile. We focused on their heating and cooling systems, which are historically significant cost centers. With some upgrades and optimization of existing equipment, we were able to help them meet their goal of achieving significant energy and operations savings," said W. John Albrecht, marketing manager of Energy Services for Perfection Group.
The Reynolds Research Park campus is currently comprised of two buildings. In 2001, Reynolds more than doubled its square footage from 250,000 to 600,000 when Building Two was completed. Yet electricity usage only increased 50 percent due to innovative energy technologies and systems. The company's cost of electricity usage per square foot dropped by 22 percent. By cutting operating costs, more dollars have been made available for the business and other productivity-enhancing measures.
Additionally, on November 10th, Reynolds broke ground on an expansion project that will add 133,000 square feet of office and training space to the campus. Reynolds will extend the energy strategy to support the new space. With the addition, Reynolds Research Park facility will become one of the largest corporate campuses in the Miami Valley.
