GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Dec. 10 -- Everyone seems to be looking to high-dollar "maintenance-free" batteries that compensate for lack of proper maintenance required by the more economical wet-cell batteries. Such thinking is a very costly approach akin to using diet pills to lose weight instead of eating right.

Improper water levels in the cells is one of the most common causes of battery failure in marine, RV, and commercial vehicles. Flow-Rite, a world leader in single-point battery watering systems, solves this problem with an innovative, automatic battery fill system called the Qwik-Fill On-board Battery Watering System.

Installation to setup a two- or three-battery bank takes just five minutes and a pocketknife or a pair of scissors. The Qwik-Fill system replaces the standard wet-cell battery caps with a special pair of three-cell caps designed to allow the cells to be filled perfectly without even seeing or touching the batteries.

The caps, or manifolds, for each battery are joined together with a short piece of tubing, and multiple batteries can be interconnected so that a single filler tube attached to one manifold allows water to flow into all the cells at the same time. Convenient and simple.

To maintain the batteries with the Qwik-Fill system the squeeze bulb filler tube in the kit is connected to the tube leading to the bank of batteries. The other end of the filler tube is placed in a container of distilled water. Squeezing the filler bulb automatically forces water into and through each battery's caps. Within seconds every cell in the bank of batteries is filled to within 1/16-inch of optimum level. You can't over- or under-fill.
