Detroit Regional Chamber Names Ford President Nick Scheele World Trader of the Year

DETROIT, Dec. 8, 2003 -- Nick Scheele, president and chief operating officer of Ford Motor Co., will be presented with the World Trader of the Year Award at the Detroit Regional Chamber's 2004 International Consular Ball on Friday, March 26 at The Ritz-Carlton, Dearborn.

The World Trader of the Year award is given annually to recognize an individual or company that has demonstrated exceptional involvement and made significant contributions in the promotion of international trade with Southeast Michigan.

"Ford's position in the global market and Nick's experience around the world made him the ideal recipient for this award," said Detroit Regional Chamber Senior Vice President John Carroll Jr.

Prior to being named president and COO, Scheele was chairman of Ford Europe, chairman and CEO of Jaguar Cars Ltd. and president of Ford Mexico.

The Chamber's International Consular Ball, a black-tie event, is the only event of its kind that recognizes the region's Consular Corps, the official representatives of foreign governments serving this area. The Ball is part of the Chamber's Strategic Plan to think globally and act regionally.

Cost for the event is $250 for Chamber members and $300 for nonmembers. Tables of 10 -- which include two sponsored consulate seats -- are also available, as well as additional sponsorship opportunities. The media is invited to attend.

The Detroit Regional Chamber is the leading business organization in the digital drive and the largest chamber of commerce in the country. The Chamber's mission -- to power the economy for Southeast Michigan -- is carried out through business attraction efforts, public policy advocacy, strategic partnerships and quality products and services for members. This year the Chamber celebrates 100 years of serving the business community.
