Andretti Green Inks Motorola as Associate Sponsor for 2004
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., (December 4, 2003) - Andretti Green Racing (AGR) announced
today it renewed its contract with Motorola, Inc. , which will serve as an associate
sponsor on the #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone during the 2004 Indy Racing League
(IRL) IndyCar™ Series season.
Motorola spent last season as an associate sponsor on all of AGR's cars, but enjoyed a
significant presence on the #27 Dallara/Honda/Firestone, which was driven to a victory by Bryan
Herta at Kansas Speedway and went on to post a sixth-place finish in the IndyCar Series entrant
point standings.
"It's great to be able to welcome Motorola back to Andretti Green for another year," said
Michael Andretti, who owns the team along with partners Kim Green and Kevin Savoree. "Motorola
has been a great partner of ours and continues to be an important part of the foundation we are
building here at Andretti Green Racing."
Motorola has been involved in auto racing since 1937 when it sponsored a car competing at
the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and began product development based on its involvement in
racing. The company launched its relationship with Andretti in 2001 when he made the move to
Team Motorola and played a major role in clearing the way for Andretti's return to the Indy 500 that
season, ending his five-year absence from "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing."
"Motorola is looking forward to teaming with 7-Eleven and continuing its relationship with
Andretti Green," said Tom Crawford, director of Motorola's corporate sponsorship marketing.
"Motorola's sponsorship with Andretti Green Racing will continue to further its growth in new
technology developments as well as continue to build relationships with other sponsors, which will
help to increase Motorola's public awareness and enhance its brand recognition. Motorola's
sponsorship represents exciting opportunities and we look forward to a great season in 2004."
The Motorola logo will be carried on the car driven by AGR driver Tony Kanaan, who gave
the team its first IndyCar Series win back in March at Phoenix International Raceway. Kanaan went
on to post nine top-five finishes during the 16-race schedule and contended for the series
championship until the final 20 laps of the season finale at Texas Motor Speedway before finishing
fourth in the final series rundown.
Rooted in the work done more than 60 years ago, many of Motorola's products are utilized
in auto racing today. From embedded electronics in the race cars to integrated communications
systems and solutions such as two-way radios, cellular phones and broadband communications,
many of Motorola's products enable teams, drivers and series' to communicate and obtain
information when they want it, where and how they want it.
