Aura Systems Teams With Puckett Machinery on Marine Mobile Power Applications
AuraGen(R) to Provide Power for Naval Warfare Boat
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Dec. 04 -- Aura Systems, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: AURA) today announced that Puckett Machinery and Aura Systems will collaborate on pursuing marine applications for Aura's AuraGen(R) Mobile Power System. Their first joint effort will be a boat being developed by U.S. Marine, Inc. (USMI) for the U.S. Navy. Puckett Machinery will supply twin Caterpillar (CAT) 3126 diesel engines with an integrated AuraGen/VIPER. USMI will install this equipment into one of their 11-meter boats for final delivery to the U.S Navy. In addition to this program, the companies are discussing continuing collaborative efforts including the retrofit of other USMI boats in the future.
"Aura is excited about working with Puckett Machinery to support our armed forces with the best in mobile electrical power," said Neal Meehan, Aura chairman and CEO. "The Navy application takes full advantage of the benefits of the AuraGen and is further recognition of the advantages of the state-of-the-art AuraGen over competing solutions such as GenSets and further validates the AuraGen for marine applications. This recognition is reflected by recent AuraGen/VIPER acquisitions by the 3/2 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, elements of the II Marine Expeditionary Force, and the Marine Corps Systems Command and the Special Operations Command."
Aura will supply their AuraGen model G5000 that can generate up to 5000 watts of continuous alternating current (AC) electrical power. The AuraGen will be used to support both high-power electrical equipment and sensitive high-tech communications equipment and sophisticated sensors. Key advantages of the AuraGen include its "clean" power that is ideally suited to power the sensitive system equipment, and the fact that the AuraGen requires no scheduled maintenance. Given the extreme space constraints of the application, the AuraGen's small size is a key advantage over competing solutions such as gensets. Gensets require additional space for fuel as well as a dedicated exhaust system. Since the AuraGen is driven by the boats' diesel engines, it provides a smaller and more environmentally clean solution that is far easier to integrate into the Navy system.
"Faced with the limited space available in marine applications, the AuraGen's small solution footprint and ease of installation made it an easy winner over bulky generators," said Richard Puckett, Puckett Machinery president and general manager. "Of equal importance is the AuraGen's ability to support high-power electrical equipment and the "clean" power required by the increasingly sophisticated electronics in marine applications. We are looking forward to working with Aura on marine applications, both military and commercial, as well as other key applications in construction, transportation and emergency response."
Puckett Machinery has been a Caterpillar dealer since 1982 and is the largest equipment dealership in the state of Mississippi. Key markets for Puckett include the construction, government and the expanding forest products industries along with a dynamic industrial and marine base on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Puckett also offers a wide range of other equipment that complements the company's Caterpillar product line. This enables it to act as a single-source supplier for all of their customers' equipment needs.
"As the dominant supplier of equipment in their market, we are excited about working with Puckett on a wide range of potential applications including marine applications," said Neal Meehan, Aura chairman and CEO. "The AuraGen already has significant acceptance in the transportation, construction, trucking and emergency response markets. As key markets for Puckett, there is a great alignment between our product lines, and Aura is looking forward to working with Puckett to take full advantage of these opportunities."
The AuraGen/VIPER is with Special Operations, Airborne, Stryker Brigade, Corps Support and Joint commands, among others, in the United States and overseas. The VIPER has been supporting troops in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan since shortly after 9/11. In addition, the VIPER is supporting combat and combat support units that have been operating throughout Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. This has included the first combat airdrops of the VIPER.
The AuraGen/VIPER is also supporting Homeland Security and is in use with the FBI, BATF, DHHS, State and local first responders in law enforcement, emergency response and fire departments. In addition, the AuraGen is serving telecommunications, cable companies and municipalities, among others, across the nation.
