Chrysler Group Reports November U.S. Sales Increased 3 Percent
- Dodge Ram sales up 15 percent - All-new 2004 Dodge Durango has strong launch; dealer orders exceed 40,000 units - Chrysler brand sales up 23 percent
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 2 -- Chrysler Group reported sales of 157,212 units for November 2003, a 3 percent increase compared on a day-rate basis to November 2002. There were 25 selling days in November 2003, and 26 in November 2002.
Leaders for the month included the Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango, Jeep(R) Wrangler, as well as the Jeep brand and Chrysler brand passenger cars.
"November sales at the Chrysler Group continue the upward trend in the fourth quarter, compared with the same period in 2002," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. "Even as we prepare to launch nine new vehicles next year, our current products are running strong."
"As 2003 draws to a close, we expect consumers will take advantage of the solid values offered during our Year End Sales Drive," said Dilts. "The time to buy is now."
Dodge Ram continued its forward momentum in the truck marketplace with sales of 33,941 units last month, up 15 percent compared with November 2002.
"The Dodge Ram continues to succeed in the marketplace because of its distinctive look, great value and powerful features, including the popular Hemi(R) engine," said Dilts. "We expect this vehicle to finish the year on a very strong note."
Dodge sold 7,737 Durangos in November, a 6 percent increase over November 2002. Since going on sale Nov. 15, the all-new 2004 Dodge Durango is selling briskly, staying on dealers' lots an average of seven days. Dealer orders for the new Durango, a large SUV with a refined ride, roomier interior and great pricing, exceed 40,000 units.
"We are extremely proud of the launch and sales of the all-new Durango," said Dilts. "The value it offers as a large SUV, with pricing that is thousands less than the competition, makes it a hit with consumers."
Jeep Wrangler posted its second straight month of double-digit sales gains, with 5,831 units sold, a 41 percent increase over the 4,295 units sold in November 2002.
Led by strong sales of Chrysler passenger cars, the Chrysler brand sold 33,864 units to achieve a 23 percent gain compared with November 2002 sales of 28,687 units. This is the third highest November sales total in the history of the Chrysler brand.
Other sales highlights for November include:
* Chrysler Sebring sold 8,602 units, a 70 percent increase over November 2002 when, 5,248 units were sold.
* Chrysler Pacifica sold 7,142 units, maintaining the same day-rate selling pace as October 2003 when 7,703 units were sold.
* Jeep brand is up 3 percent compared with November 2002.
"The fast start of the all-new Dodge Durango is setting the stage for the nine new products coming next year," said Dilts. "Looking ahead, these new cars, trucks and SUVs will be launched into an economy that is improving. The manufacturing sector is gaining strength, consumer confidence and spending are up, and interest rates remain near all-time lows. This is an exciting picture. What could be better than to launch new Chrysler Group products into an improving economy?"
Chrysler Group finished the month with 533,467 days of inventory, or an 85-day supply.
