Fleetguard Introduces Enviroguard Open Crankcase Ventilation System for Class 5-8 Vehicles

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Dec. 2, 2003--Fleetguard Inc. is introducing a new product line designed to address diesel crankcase emissions in all Bus and Class 5-8 major diesel engine applications. The new product line, Enviroguard(TM), uses patented technology to control oil drip and filter crankcase aerosols in all diesel engine applications from 60-640 horsepower. The Enviroguard(TM) system offers outstanding competitive benefits, including improved engine performance, no maintenance or service requirements, and a system design that lasts the life of the engine.

Enviroguard(TM) systems provide superior aerosol filtering of crankcase emissions, commonly known as blowby. According to John Clevenger, Fleetguard's Director of Product Management, "Blowby is the condition that occurs when high pressure gases and oils escape around piston rings. The oily mist attracts dust and airborne particles, resulting in an accumulation on the engine and on the surface beneath it. This condition increases the clean-up required in the engine compartment. It also results in unsightly oil drips on highways, parking lots, garage floors and driveways. Enviroguard(TM) eliminates this messy oil drip problem for good."

Clevenger said Fleetguard's Enviroguard(TM) system is six times more efficient than conventional wire mesh breather systems in filtering aerosol emissions. The system works by capturing, separating and coalescing oil particulates from the emissions and returning the oil to the crankcase with filtered gases vented to the atmosphere.

"During 500,000 miles of operation, oil drip from a wire mesh breather system can result in as much as two quarts of oil," Clevenger said. "That is a lot of oil released into the atmosphere. The Enviroguard(TM) system reduces oil drip to less than six tablespoons! Our design teams worked very hard on this technology, and it is a major step forward in cleaning up our environment, while providing lifetime service and improved engine performance."

The Enviroguard(TM) systems are designed for Cummins, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel, Ford, International Truck and Engine, Mack and Volvo, Scania, DAF, MAN and other diesel applications.
