Spartech Polycom Wins SPE Automotive Innovation Interiors Award
ST. LOUIS, Nov. 26, 2003 -- Spartech Corporation announced today that its Spartech Polycom division has won the prestigious SPE Automotive Innovations award for the Interiors Category. This represents the fifth time in the past six years that Spartech Polycom has won this award.
This year's award was presented to Spartech Polycom for the Instrument Panel Retainer in the General Motors GMT800 full-size pickup. Delphi Automotive utilizes Spartech Polycom's ReinFORCE IPR, one of Spartech's "Family of Alloy Plastics", which is a glass and mineral filled engineered compound that was introduced earlier in 2003. The Company's successful effort on this application was a direct result of Spartech's constant focus on research & development and new Product Transformations, the replacement of traditional materials with improved polymer-based solutions. The use of ReinFORCE IPR allows for lower cost, better processing, and lower weight than conventional materials.
Spartech Polycom has previously received this award for the Jeep Grand Cherokee load floor, the Pontiac Aztec convenience tray, the DaimlerChrysler PT Cruiser package shelf, and the TJ Jeep Wrangler speaker POD assembly. All of these applications were Product Transformations utilizing Spartech's Alloy Plastics - proprietary products that combine advanced engineered thermoplastic compounds & additives with innovative manufacturing techniques.
Spartech Corporation is a leading producer of engineered thermoplastic materials, polymeric compounds, and molded & profile products, which has 47 facilities located throughout United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, with annual production capacity and sales of more than 1.2 billion pounds and $950 million, respectively.
