INTERMET's Druschitz Named SAE Fellow
TROY, Mich., Nov. 25, 2003 -- INTERMET Corporation , one of the world's leading manufacturers of cast-metal automotive components, today announced that Dr. Alan P. Druschitz, Director of Materials Research and Development, has been elected SAE Fellow by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International). Druschitz, who is based at INTERMET's Technical Center in Lynchburg, Virginia, earned this distinction for his efforts in expanding engineering knowledge related to automotive cast- metal products.
SAE Fellowship status is the highest grade of membership bestowed by SAE International. It recognizes outstanding engineering and scientific accomplishments by an individual that have resulted in meaningful advances in automotive, aerospace and commercial-vehicle technology. Established in 1975, the Fellowship program yearly recognizes a maximum of only 20 recipients worldwide.
"This is a tremendous honor for Alan," said Thomas E. Prucha, INTERMET Vice President of Technical Services. "His contributions in the areas of metal-casting materials and processes have resulted in many significant improvements in the way our industry manufactures castings. His efforts also have resulted in important performance improvements and cost savings on countless automotive components produced by INTERMET."
In addition to SAE International, Druschitz is active in many other technical and industry associations, including the American Foundry Society, ASM International, and the Ductile Iron Society, which recently elected him President. In 2001, he was appointed by the governor of Virginia to a four- year term on that state's Transportation Safety Board, which advises the governor, the secretary of transportation and the commissioner of the Department of Motor Vehicles on transportation safety matters.
