BorgWarner DualTronic(TM) Earns 2003 Excellence In Development Award From VW Group

CHICAGO, Nov. 20, 2003 -- VW Group has honored BorgWarner Inc. with its 2003 Excellence in Development Award for BorgWarner's innovative DualTronic(TM) transmission technology, which is a key enabler for the direct-shifting gearbox that was launched recently on the Audi TT and VW Golf R32. The award recognizes exceptional performance of suppliers to VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini. Twenty-five suppliers were honored in the areas of quality, logistics/delivery, entrepreneurship, environment and development.

BorgWarner was one of only two U.S.-based companies to receive the award, and the only supplier in the drivetrain area of the five companies honored in the development category. BorgWarner Chairman and CEO Tim Manganello accepted the award from VW Group Chairman Bernd Pischetsrieder during a ceremony last month at Wolfsburg Castle.

"BorgWarner is extremely proud of its industry-first DualTronic(TM) technology, and the enthusiastic accolades it has received from drivers who value both fuel efficiency and exceptional vehicle performance," said Manganello. "I am honored to accept this prestigious recognition from our valued customer on behalf of the DualTronic(TM) team."

BorgWarner DualTronic(TM) offers drivers the convenience of an automatic transmission with the fuel efficiency of a manual transmission. Through advanced electronics and a unique two-clutch wet friction system, DualTronic(TM) eliminates the "torque-interrupt" feeling that is noticeable when a manual transmission shifts gears. This new technology improves fuel economy and emissions while delivering a responsive, fun-to-drive vehicle performance.
