DaimlerChrysler, City of New York Team Up To Put Fleet of Zero Emission Vehicles to Work Around the City

WHAT: DaimlerChrysler will officially turn over the keys to GEM electric vehicles to the City of New York. The automaker is donating 352 zero emission electric vehicles for use in departments around the City.
WHO: Mayor Michael Bloomberg is scheduled to attend, along with Christopher Ward, Commissioner of Environmental Protection; Adrian Benepe, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation; U.S. EPA/Region 2 Administrator Jane Kenny; and representatives of DaimlerChrysler.
WHEN: 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 19. WHERE: New York City Hall Plaza.
DETAILS/OTHER: DaimlerChrysler has donated 352 GEMs to the New York City Parks and Recreation Department. The vehicles will be put to use in City parks and facilities to provide clean, quiet, convenient, low cost transportation for city projects. GEM is the leading electric vehicle in the country; more than 28,000 will be in use by the end of 2003. DaimlerChrysler previously donated 30 GEMs to the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) for use in municipalities on Long Island.
