GEICO Honored with Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce Goodwill Award
FREDERICKSBURG, Va., Nov. 17, 2003 -- In recognition of GEICO's many contributions to the community, the company has been named a Goodwill Award winner by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce.
GEICO was honored at a luncheon at the Fredericksburg Country Club, Tuesday, Nov. 11. The award recognizes businesses that have made outstanding contributions of both time and money to helping disadvantaged members of the Fredericksburg community.
"We are honored to receive this award," said Regional Vice President of the Fredericksburg office, John Izzo. "GEICO has been committed to developing the Fredericksburg area since the day we arrived in 1989."
GEICO's contributions include over $223,000 dollars in donations to the Rappahannock United Way during 2002 and associates volunteer their time through GEICO's Corporate Community Citizens (GCCC). GEICO also supports various non-profit organizations in the community such as Boys and Girls Club, Hospice Support Care, ARC of Rappahannock, Hope House, Thurman Brisben Homeless Shelter, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Adult Activity Center, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, Lymphoma/Leukemia Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, and Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.
