Michigan Small Tech Association Welcomes Delphi as Member
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 17, 2003 -- The Michigan Small Tech Association (MISTA) announced today that Delphi Corp. of Troy, MI has joined MISTA, becoming the association's largest corporate member. Delphi is a world leader in mobile electronics and transportation components and systems technology. Delphi has small tech components in several product areas including safety systems, communications and environmental technologies.
"Delphi looks forward to the relationship established today with MISTA," said Dr. Andrew Brown, Jr., Delphi executive director, Engineering Competency, Product Government Affairs & Partnership, and President, Delphi Technologies Inc. "The creation of MISTA is an important step forward to help Michigan companies become more innovative and advance their technological capabilities through small tech developments."
MISTA helps companies developing and integrating these new technologies find markets, partners and resources in Michigan. Small tech is the world of tiny machines that includes microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) and nanotechnology.
"Small tech is having a large impact on the auto industry. Delphi has been an industry leader in developing and integrating these technologies," said John Bedz, Director of MISTA. "These innovations allow forward thinking companies, like Delphi, to find new industries and applications for their products."
Delphi has established a partnership with Wayne State University, placing researchers onsite and donating $6.5 million worth of clean room equipment at the Smart Sensors and Integrated Microsystems Laboratory. Opened in 2003, the lab offers partnership opportunities for companies needing specialized facilities and could serve as a starting point for Michigan companies developing small technologies.
