AKINS MOTORSPORTS ANNOUNCES CHANGES FOR THE 2004 SEASON
MOORESVILLE, N.C. - Akins Motorsports, one of the premier teams in the
NASCAR Busch Series, has instituted changes aimed at accomplishing one goal in
2004 - winning the NASCAR Busch Series championship
Effective at the end of the 2003 season, Akins Motorsports will become a
jointly owned organization, with Doug Stringer sharing equal ownership with
Brad Akins. Akins has owned the team for 11 years, with Stringer serving as
general manager for the past five. Between the two, they have more than 30 years
of experience in racing. The Akins Motorsports name will not change.
In addition to the partnership, the No. 38 team will begin contending for
championships in Dodge-manufactured equipment in the NASCAR Busch Series.
Evernham Motorsports will support the team's Dodge effort with its technical
assets and prepare the motors that Akins Motorsports will utilize in the 2004 and
2005 seasons.
"Brad and I both feel that the change to Dodge along with the additional
support from Ray Evernham's organization will assist in completing the package
that will enable our team to aggressively contend for the Busch Series
championship in the years to come," said Stringer.
"Bringing a victory to Ford on the last race of an 11-year relationship
is a great ending for everyone," said Akins. "We couldn't have written a
better storybook ending. In addition, what better way to enter the Dodge camp
next season than with this win?
"We have had tremendous support from Ford over the years, and again, we
feel that this couldn't have ended any better for our team."
The No. 38 Great Clips team ended the 2003 season in seventh in the
NASCAR Busch Series driver points with one win, four top-five and 14 top-10
finishes. The team has started in the top 10 in 19 of the 34 races this season with
one Bud Pole position (Michigan) and four second-place starts.
