ECD Ovonics Showcases Hydrogen Storage Technology To Power Sustainable Transportation at EVS-20
ECD Chairman Robert Stempel to Moderate Panel Discussion on Costs of Global Sustainable Transportation
WHO: Energy Conversion Devices, Inc. (ECD Ovonics) is a pioneer in hydrogen-based energy solutions including solar power systems, rechargeable nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, and solid hydrogen storage systems.
WHAT: The theme of this year's International Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition, EVS-20, is "Powering Sustainable Transportation." The event is sponsored by the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA), an international association representing the interests of those involved in the development, production and use of battery, hybrid and fuel cell electric drive technologies and supporting infrastructure.
ECD Ovonics will showcase storage technology that brings hydrogen storage systems to both vehicles and refueling stations. The technology is a compact solid hydrogen storage system that promises to deliver cars with similar range, performance and refueling experience as vehicles today. The solution is a proprietary hydride storage system, which can be used both at the refueling site and onboard the vehicle. The low-pressure, hydrogen fuel tanks can also be used at refueling stations, allowing drivers to refuel their hydrogen-fueled vehicles safely and easily.
ECD Ovonics will also be demonstrating the InnoVan, a vehicle running on ECD Ovonics' NiMH battery technology. The InnoVan has an advanced battery- powered electric drive train and can be configured as a 2-passenger cargo van or a 6-passenger commuter van. It was designed to serve urban transportation requirements where pollution concerns have restricted the use of conventional vehicles. This technology will be available for test-drives at the EVS-20 Ride 'n Drive event.
Additionally, Robert Stempel, ECD's chairman and one of the world's foremost automobile engineers, will moderate a panel on the topic, "The Costs of Global Calls for Sustainable Transportation: Can We Afford the Bill?" The Automotive Roundtable, new to this year's event, will kick off the symposium and feature senior executives from the world's leading automotive companies.
WHERE: Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California WHEN: Saturday, November 15, 2003 - Wednesday, November 19, 2003. Booth #338B. Automotive Roundtable: Sunday, November 16 at 4:30 p.m. Ride 'n Drive: November 15 and 16 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
WHY: "Hydrogen is widely recognized as the most promising path to our transportation future," said Stanford R. Ovshinsky, ECD Ovonics' co-founder, president, and CEO. "But getting to that future is our current challenge. We believe that taking an integrated system approach with onboard as well as off- board (refueling) storage of this fuel leads to a logical short- and even long-term solution."
