Timken-Sponsored Richard Childress Racing Wraps Up Busch Series Owners Championship
Timken(R) RacePac(R) bearings aid in championship
CANTON, Ohio, Nov. 14 -- Richard Childress Racing (RCR) driver Kevin Harvick clinched the NASCAR Busch Series Car-Owners Championship at North Carolina Speedway this past weekend. Harvick's car was equipped with the new Timken(R) RacePac(R) integrated bearing package.

Harvick drove the No. 21 Payday Chevrolet to a historic title, marking the first time two drivers have combined to secure a team title. Harvick and co- driver Johnny Sauter tag-teamed behind the wheel of the No. 21 Payday car throughout the 2003 season.
"This was a goal we set at the beginning of the season for our Busch program at RCR," said car owner Richard Childress. "The entire team worked very hard week in and week out to achieve this goal. The No. 21 team has been a top performer throughout the year."
Timken RacePac packaged wheel bearings were used on the racecars throughout the season. Timken developed RacePac bearings in early 2002 to provide the first pre-assembled, race-ready front- and rear-wheel hubs. The hubs provide increased performance and safety to race teams using super speedway hubs.
"Working with Timken and the RacePac product has allowed us to achieve higher levels of performance, quality and safety across the board in 2003," said David Holden, team engineer, Richard Childress Racing. "We have achieved the goals that we set at the beginning of the season with the No. 21 Payday car. The RacePac product is the result of intense development and we look forward to new developments in cooperation with Timken."
RacePac bearings are designed using Timken(R) tapered roller bearings, Timken-designed seals, precisely ground spacers and hubs from Speedway Engineering or Stock Car products.
The bearings are pre-lubed, pre-sealed and pre-adjusted to Timken specifications and run 20 to 30 percent cooler on front wheels and more than 30 percent cooler on rear wheels, compared to standard package bearings.
Using its patented zero-torque seal design, RacePac hubs decrease torque by working off positive air pressure to put grease back into the seal and keep contaminates out. With less seal drag, more horsepower is available at the tire and bearing temperatures are reduced. This provides for improved handling at higher speeds and increases driver safety.
