Ward's Reports Estimated North American Vehicle Production 11/14/03

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Nov. 14, 2003 -- Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 323,387 units, down 7.5 percent from the 349,796 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward's Automotive Reports.

Including this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 14,531,101 vehicles, down 3.4 percent from like-2002's pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 240,010 vehicles this week, down 11.5 percent from the 271,102 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2003 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 10,786,158 units, down 2.2 percent from the 11,029,353 vehicles built in like-2002.

This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 54,184, a 12.3 percent increase from the 48,239 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,261,103 units, down 5.2 percent compared to the 2,386,082 vehicles produced in like-2002.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 29.5 percent; Ford Motor Co., 23.5 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 17.0 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.1 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.6 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 5.7 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.3 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.2 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Subaru Automotive Inc., 1.1 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.8 percent.
