UAW Iowa State CAP Council Endorses Gephardt for President

DAVENPORT, Iowa, Nov. 12, 2003 -- The executive board of the UAW Iowa State Community Action Program (CAP) Council today issued the following statement on its endorsement of U.S. Rep. Richard A. Gephardt for president:

"We are proud to endorse Dick Gephardt for president because he's a proven fighter for America's working men and women, retirees and children.

"Dick Gephardt grew up in a working-class union family in St. Louis and has never lost touch with the concerns, values and hopes of working families struggling to buy a home, pay medical bills and make sure their children get the best education possible. He is a stand-up leader in the fight for fair trade policies that put the interests of working people first, and he will work tirelessly as president to keep good jobs in America. And Dick Gephardt knows well from his own family's experience the critical importance of quality, affordable health care to America's families.

"In Iowa, we are proud to be on Dick Gephardt's side in this critically important campaign."

The UAW is one of Iowa's largest unions, representing 14,000 active workers and 22,000 retirees statewide.
