Vishay Releases New Tantalum Capacitors, Diode Package and Infrared Receiver Modules

MALVERN, Pa., Nov. 12, 2003 -- Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released new conformal-coated, solid, tantalum chip capacitors; a new diode package; and new infrared (IR) receiver modules.

The new Vishay Sprague 592D capacitors in "X" and "Y" cases are designed for low-profile applications, such as wireless GPRS PCMCIA modem cards and cell phones, requiring very high capacitance. They are part of Vishay's 592D family of conformal-coated, solid, tantalum chip capacitors, which provide the highest available capacitance values for low-profile tantalum capacitors, and are part of the TANTAMOUNT(R) product line. At 6.3 WVDC, both the X- and Y- case-size capacitors offer a maximum dissipation factor of 35%, ESR of 0.055 ohms, and ripple of 1.80 A during operation at +25 degrees C and 100 kHz. The devices' low ESR values help to reduce power consumption, while their uniquely compact case sizes enable the design of lighter, smaller, more portable end products.

The new Vishay Semiconductors SMF (DO219-AB) diode package combines high power capability and miniaturized dimensions of 3.7 mm by 1.8 mm by 0.98 mm to allow considerable space savings on printed circuit boards. With its industry-low package height of 0.98 mm -- as much as 50% lower than competing devices -- the SMF (DO219-AB) package reduces space requirements and improves circuit board density. Vishay Semiconductors diode products offered in the SMF address all industry segments and include switching, fast switching, ultrafast switching, Schottky, ESD protection, and Zener diodes. The SMF (DO219-AB) package meets the demand for smaller and thinner diodes that enable small and light portable products, such as cellular phones, notebook PCs, and portable consumer products, as well as space-constrained automotive modules.

The new Vishay Semiconductors TSOP48xxxxAM miniaturized IR receiver modules are the industry's first such devices approved for a storage temperature range of -40 degrees C to +90 degrees C in automotive environments. The multi-functioned IR receiver modules integrate a photo detector and preamplifier in a single compact package with internal metal shielding for protection against electrical field disturbances, as well as Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuitry for suppression of ambient light disturbances. They will be used primarily for in-car entertainment systems. In addition to high immunity against ambient light, the TSOP48xxxxAM series provides low power consumption and a low active output. An internal band filter allows PCM frequency operation.
