Volkswagen de Mexico Deploys Saba to Ensure Channel Certification

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--Nov. 12, 2003--

Enterprise Learning Solution Helps Volkswagen de Mexico Increase New Car Sales by Improving the Readiness of Factory and Independent Dealer Employees

Saba , the leading provider of human capital development and management (HCDM) solutions, in partnership with gedas Mexico, a leading IT provider in the Mexican market, today announced that Volkswagen de Mexico has deployed Saba to VW employees and dealership employees throughout Mexico. As dealerships are independently owned, Volkswagen de Mexico previously had no solution for training and certifying dealer employees on new car models. Volkswagen de Mexico is leveraging the Saba solution to deliver e-learning courses, ensure channel certification, and increase sales and channel productivity.

Volkswagen de Mexico uses the Saba solution throughout its independent dealer network, which sells VW, Audi, and SEAT automobiles. It leverages the solution to provide service and sales training to dealership employees and manage certifications by seniority level and job role. It also uses the Saba system to track certification records of dealership employees who often work for multiple dealers or who switch to different dealers. As a result, Volkswagen de Mexico can increase the readiness of its channel to sell new models, enhance customer service to reduce rework and increase customer loyalty, and increase the value of the VW brand.

The Volkswagen de Mexico factory in Puebla, which manufactures VW Jetta and New Beetle automobiles, uses the Saba system to deliver training to managers and technicians on such subjects as leadership, business skills, service and quality. Delivering training exactly when it is required, such as when manufacturing new car models, can help Volkswagen de Mexico improve product quality, accelerate the time to market of new products and lower production costs.

Daniel Estrada, Volkswagen de Mexico's personnel and personnel development director, said, "Delivering enterprise learning is a cornerstone of our strategy to move more business functions to the web. It helps us develop and manage the people that are working on the most significant projects to ensure that they are meeting key objectives. With the Saba system, we expect to increase the productivity of sales and channel personnel, improve customer service and reduce partially the time and costs associated with delivering learning."

Bobby Yazdani, Saba chairman and CEO, said, "Our local alliances and strong experience with other Latin American and automotive customers has helped ensure the success of Volkswagen de Mexico, particularly in the area of channel certification. Saba's channel certification solutions address our customers' requirements to ensure that their employees and partners are properly trained and certified, thereby driving increased revenues."

Saba and gedas Mexico, both with deep experience in the automotive industry, designed an integral solution for Volkswagen de Mexico's e-learning initiative. gedas Mexico, as Volkswagen's IT partner, implemented the Saba system according to Volkswagen de Mexico's business requirements, aligning strategic guidelines with operational processes.

Detlef Fohl, gedas Mexico's CFO and speaker of the board, said, "The e-learning solution designed by gedas Mexico in partnership with Saba supports the IT objectives of Volkswagen de Mexico's e-business initiatives. gedas Mexico and Saba have designed a solution with high value for the entire VW Group, not just for Mexico."
