2005 Mustang Lights 'em Up

LAS VEGAS – Ford is turning up the lights in Vegas at this year's Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show with a sneak-peek showing of its industry-first, color-configurable instrument cluster – just one of many innovations coming with the new 2005 Mustang. Instrument gauges can be subtly or dramatically illuminated in the new 'Stang, using three light-emitting diodes (LEDs). But it's not just red, green and blue, like crayons from a box. The colors combine to provide six preset shades – green, blue, purple, white, orange and red. Innovative "light pipe" technology then steps in and allows '05 Mustang owners to mix and blend these six shades for up to 125 custom-colored backgrounds.

Imagine it – a vehicle interior to suit your mood.

"Make no mistake about it: The new Mustang will be a head-turner on the outside," says J Mays, Ford group vice president, Design. "But it also will set new standards for sports car interiors – in a manner very similar to how the new F-150 has changed the game in the pickup market."

Already one of the most customizable cars ever, the new Mustang will feature unprecedented aftermarket tune-ability.

"Mustang's heritage is built on performance and attainability, as well as its appeal with aftermarket tuners who customize their cars inside and out," says Hau Thai-Tang, Ford Mustang chief nameplate engineer. "Now, Mustang customers will get more interior flexibility straight from the plant."

The 2005 Mustang will arrive in showrooms next year.
