Warren Johnson Sits Sixth Halfway through Qualifying in Pomona

Event: 39th annual Auto Club of Southern California Finals
Location: Pomona Raceway
       Pomona, California
Day/Date: Friday November 7, 2003

For the second consecutive day, Warren Johnson was among the leaders in the Pro Stock category during qualifying for the Auto Club of Southern California Finals. Johnson's GM Performance Parts Grand Am covered the quarter mile in 6.813 seconds, with a top speed of 203.95 mph. This was the third quickest pass in the right hand lane, which is traditionally the slower side at Pomona Raceway. However, his 6.799 second, 204.23 mph pass from Thursday remained his best, slotting Johnson sixth heading into the final two sessions on Saturday.

"The performance in that lane is obviously not up to that of the left hand side, but you simply make the best of what you have. That run by the GM Performance Parts Grand Am was about as good as you're going to get in the right hand lane. The car is moving around constantly, and the front end is off the ground about half the time in fourth gear.

"The best news is that we are still solidly in the field for Sunday, which is our primary concern, and we should have similar conditions tomorrow morning, so I think we'll be fine."
