Johnson Controls Receives National 'Star of Energy Efficiency' Award
Alliance to Save Energy Recognizes Global Impact of Energy Systems And Services
MILWAUKEE, Nov. 7 -- The Alliance to Save Energy, a Washington DC-based coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders, bestowed one of its top honors on Johnson Controls, Inc. , the global leader in facility management and control, for the company's outstanding contributions to the advancement of energy efficiency.
The Alliance's 2003 "Star of Energy Efficiency" awards were presented November 4, 2003, at a black-tie dinner in the atrium of the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C.
According to the Alliance: "The Star of Energy Efficiency Award salutes this multi-billion dollar corporation, which has provided worldwide leadership in energy-efficient automotive systems and building controls since 1885. Johnson Controls' contribution to energy efficiency in the last year includes helping several institutions meet -- and even exceed -- their energy savings goals."
Through innovative technology and energy efficient strategies, Johnson Controls is helping its customers save a projected $18 billion in utility costs through 2010 and implementing programs that are intended to reduce air pollution by 352 million tons. Some of Johnson Controls hundreds of energy saving success stories include:
-- A $51 million project with the United States Marine Corps base at
Twentynine Palms, California, including a 1.2 MW photovoltaic array
that will annually save taxpayers approximately $5.8 million.
-- A contract with Pell City, Ala. to install 4,700 new radio read water
meters upgrade to light emitting diode (LED) traffic signals at 16
intersections, and improve 10 city-owned buildings - saving
$4.2 million over the next 10 years.
-- An ENERGY STAR-winning project with Dutchess Community College in New
York that is expected to save the college 700,000-kilowatt hours of
electricity annually, with $1.2 million in energy and operational cost
savings over the next 15 years.
