NHRA Thursday: Kurt Johnson Opens Pomona Qualifying in the Fourth Position

Event: 39th annual Auto Club of Southern California Finals
Location: Pomona Raceway
       Pomona, California
Day/Date: Thursday November 6, 2003

Kurt Johnson and the ACDelco Racing team opened their qualifying effort for the Auto Club of Southern California Finals in final fashion on Thursday at Pomona Raceway. With his Pro Stock Cavalier carrying the special ACDelco/KISS paint scheme that he debuted in Las Vegas, Johnson covered the quarter mile in 6.806 seconds with a top speed of 204.17 mph to sit fourth after the first of four qualifying sessions in Pomona, CA.

"That's a good start. It might have been a little over-clutched and over-geared, but we felt it would go down the race track, and with the questions about the weather, that's primarily what we wanted it to do. The biggest concern was that we get in the show so we could hold on to the second spot in the points. Now we can work on fine tuning it and going after the top spot. A 6.80 isn't too bad, but we feel our ACDelco Cavalier can go even quicker."
