Cellport's Patented Personal Telematics Technologies Used By European Manufacturers to Launch US Products
HAYWARD, California, November 6 -- Cellport Systems' 2-Part Vehicle Platform Licenced to Cullmann Electronics and Raytel
Cellport Systems, creator of the worldwide Personal Telematics patent portfolio, has licenced its universal 2-Part car kit architecture for wireless phone hands-free operations to two German-based equipment producers, Cullmann Electronics and Raytel, to market their respective products in the U.S.
Cellport's patented 2-Part Personal Telematics platform links 60 different makes and models of portable wireless handsets with one standard vehicle interface. Interchangeable phone pocket adaptors snap directly on the installed vehicle mount - becoming the connection between the phone's capabilities and the vehicle's resources.
"Two-part hands-free products have enjoyed exceptional growth in Europe over the past five years," said Dr. Axel Fuchs of Cogenia Partners, a San Jose-based consultant. "In safety-conscious Europe, 13 countries have wireless hands-free driving laws, which have helped open the market for 1+ million hands-free systems installed by auto manufacturers or aftermarket dealers in 2003. As wireless phones add navigation and other multi-media features to their capabilities, Personal Telematics products will continue to soar in the future."
Cellport expects its three largest licensees, Motorola, Cullmann and Raytel, will all begin shipping their respective 2-part products on high-end European vehicles in the first quarter of 2004.
The 2-Part Personal Telematics vehicle system provides convenient hands- free operation for a variety of wireless phones by including a speaker, microphone, external antenna and voice-activated dialling. It also charges the phone and mutes the stereo/radio during a call. As GPS navigation/data and MP3 player capabilities are included in 2004 wireless phone models, Cellport's technology will link them to the vehicle as well.
"U.S. consumers are now able to easily and conveniently use a greater number of wireless phones with a hands-free vehicle kit," said Pat Kennedy, CEO of Cellport Systems. "By licensing our technology to Cullmann Electronics and Raytel, we hope to speed the evolution and adoption of the next generation of 2-Part universal car kits - which are more versatile and adaptable than older, single-phone car kits."
Cullmann Electronics, Europe's largest producer of 2-Part Personal Telematics systems, and Raytel, a San Diego-based company that sells Funkwerk-Dabendorf's 2-Part Personal Telematics platform, now have a licence from Cellport to market their highly successful European-designed products in the U.S. as original equipment in vehicles or as aftermarket accessories through speciality retailers, mobile electronics dealers and fleet operators.
As drivers' safety awareness and public regulation increase, both consumers and commercial automotive fleets are seeking these new 2-part hands-free systems to provide a solution to meet their mobile communications needs while driving. Additionally, the patented 2-Part architecture makes it easy for commercial car and truck fleets to use multiple wireless phones in a single hands-free system.
