Americans Lead Mediabuddies' Global Search for Old
Colleagues
LONDON, Nov. 4, 2003 -- Americans lead a league table of
media people from 24 countries who have become Mediabuddies
-- members of http://www.mediabuddies.com -- the industry's
first and exclusive worldwide reunion site, it was announced
today.
They represent 46% of all the journalists, radio and
television news broadcasters, public relations, advertising
and marketing executives who are now trying to trace old
colleagues and contacts on the Internet.
Close behind are Britons (41%) while the rest of the
membership comes from Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada,
China, Czech Republic, Dubai, Falkland Islands, France,
Holland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, New Zealand, Norway,
Portugal, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, and
Turkey.
Hundreds have joined Mediabuddies since the website was
launched a month ago and the membership is growing daily as
the word is spread around the world.
David Davis, former journalist with The Times and previously
vice chairman of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide
explained why he believes Mediabuddies' popularity is
growing so rapidly:
"Media people live in a world of their own. A world in which
you meet many people and get to know some but where real
friendships are hard to come by and certainly more
problematical to keep. That's the downside of an
anti-social lifestyle that can change course with a single
telephone call."
"You are faced with a future life of fleeting relationships
whether you are a reporter for a trade magazine, a roving
foreign correspondent for a major TV news network, or an
account handler in an advertising or public relations
agency," he said.
The idea for Mediabuddies was born when he tried to find old
colleagues from his first job on the Croydon Times, a weekly
newspaper in Surrey, England.
"The surge of interest in Mediabuddies has already brought
early rewards for those members in different countries such
as the US, UK, and Canada who have reported tracing people
with whom they had lost contact," said Davis.
