ASA Racing Returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2004

ASA Racing Returns to Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2004

Pendleton,  Ind.  (November  4,  2003)  -  The  2004  American  Speed  Association  (ASA
Racing  Series)  will  make  a  return  appearance  at  the  famed  Atlanta  Motor  Speedway
after  a  20-year  absence.  The  100-lap  event  will be part of next fall's Bass Pro Shops
MBNA 500 weekend and will take place immediately following qualifying on the Oct. 29
Georgia-Pacific  Qualifying  Night.  The  event  will  serve  to  close  ASA's  37th  season  of
championship stock car racing.

The late October race for ASA on the 1.54-mile oval will mark the first time since April,
29, 1984 for the series at the track. That outing saw Jim Sauter of Wisconsin take the
checkered flag in the Dana Dixie Double 200. Sauter edged Dick Trickle for the win after
taking the lead from Mark Martin on lap 88 and leading the balance of the race.

The  other  ASA  appearance  at  Atlanta  came  on  April  17,  1983  and  featured  a  battle
between a pair of future Winston Cup champions, Rusty Wallace and Alan Kulwicki. The
eventual  1983  ASA  champion  Wallace  outlasted  Kulwicki  on  his  way  to  a  win  in  the
Kraco Dixie 200.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is one of the premier motorsports facilities in the country. Built
in 1960, the Speedway encompasses an 870-acre area.

The  track  hosts  a  pair  of  NASCAR  Winston  Cup  races  each  year,  which  are  the  two
most highly attended single day events each year in the state of Georgia. Along with a
number of other major racing series to compete at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the track is
in  use  more  than  300  days  each  year  hosting  corporate  events,  driving  schools,
concerts,   air   shows,   dog   shows,   circuses,   weddings   and   car   shows.   The  facility
generates more than $450 annually for the Atlanta area economy.

"With  a  number  of  our  2004  events  being  run  on  larger  tracks  than  we've  generally
competed upon, I believe that Atlanta Motor Speedway fits any standard we may have,"
said  ASA  President/CEO  Steve  Dale.  "It  will  allow  our  drivers,  sponsors  and  fans  an
extraordinary opportunity to experience a first rate venue."

ASA  has  also  competed  at  other  Atlanta  area  tracks  in  recent  years;  Peach  State
Speedway near Gainesville, Ga. and Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Ga.

Atlanta  area  residents  Mike  Garvey  and  Mike  Miller,  along  with  Wisconsin  short  track
ace Steve Carlson and the late Alan Kulwicki, have won the four events at Peach State
Speedway.  Garvey  and  current  NASCAR  driver  Scott  Wimmer  have  captured  the  two
ASA races at Lanier in 2000 and 2003 respectively.

The ASA Racing Series completed its 36th season last month at Nashville, Tenn. Kevin
Cywinski of Wausau, Wis. was crowned the series 2003 National Champion while Reed
Sorenson of Peachtree City, Ga. won honors as the $50,000 Rookie of the Year.

Both Cywinski, previously the 1997 series champion, and Sorenson will be honored at
the ASA  National Awards  Banquet  on  Saturday,  January  24,  at  Caesars  Indiana  near
Louisville, Ky.
