American Honda Posts Best Ever October Truck Sales
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 3, 2003 -- Powered by record October sales of the Honda Pilot, Element and Acura MDX sport-utility vehicles, American Honda recorded its best-ever October sales for light truck models. Combined Honda and Acura light truck sales of 41,942 topped last year's record of 35,964 by 16.6 percent. American Honda light truck sales for the year are up 34.5 percent to 446,430 units through the end of October.
American Honda total sales of 1,151,641 are up 9.8 percent for the calendar year on the strength of new models including the Accord, Element, Acura TSX and the just launched Acura TL sport luxury sedan. Total American Honda car and truck sales in October declined a modest 2.9 percent versus a year ago.
Honda Division
Honda Division year-to-date sales rose 11.3 percent over year-ago totals to 1,010,683 units, while October sales of 85,539 were down 6.2 percent from last October. Record October sales of the Element and Pilot powered Honda to a new October light truck sales record of 37,006 units, up 17.6 percent from last year. Light truck sales for the calendar year are up 38.5 percent to 399,877 through the end of October.
Honda also maintained its leadership in sales of hybrid vehicles with results for its hybrid models, the Insight and Civic Hybrid, totaling 1,706 units for the month and 19,805 for the calendar year to date.
Acura Division
Powered by the introduction of the all-new, 270-horsepower, Acura TL luxury sports sedan, TL sales jumped 38.7 percent to a new October record of 6,031 units for the month. Acura Division sales rose 21.7 percent to 14,731 on record October sales of the TL and TSX sports sedans and MDX luxury sport-utility vehicle. Acura sales year-to-date are off 0.2 percent through the end of October.
