Bi-State Truckers Present Annual Awards to Brian Maher, NY/NJ Terminals Operators And Other Port Businesses

NEWARK, N.J.--Oct. 3, 20031, 2003--The Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers presented its highest award, the Leamon Mc Coy Memorial Award to M. Brian Maher, Chairman and CEO of Maher Terminals Inc. for his personal contributions towards the betterment of the Intermodal Industry during 2002.

Mr. Maher was specifically recognized for his company's introduction of extended gate hours in the bi-state harbor that has helped ease traffic congestion and provided value-added services to its customers and vendors.

"Brian Maher and his staff recognized the need and worked towards a solution that helped ease traffic, allowed more turnarounds for truck deliveries, and is leading to more efficient cargo movement in the Port of New York and New Jersey," said Jeffrey Alan Bader, Association president. "He is truly a leader in our industry and we honor his vision and foresight."

In addition, Maher's Fleet Street Terminal was named recipient of the William F. Fallon Memorial Award as the most Outstanding On-Pier Intermodal Terminal in the Port of New York-New Jersey during 2002. This award is named for Bill Fallon, a Port of New York/ New Jersey maritime sales manager who perished in the September 11,2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center.

The two awards were among more than a dozen presented for excellence in 2002 by the port truckers group at its annual golf outing and awards luncheon held this week in Forsgate, NJ. Other award recipients include Jim Devine, President of N.Y. Container Terminal (formerly Howland Hook) for being the individual who has contributed the most towards furthering the Port Community Concept in the Port of New York-New Jersey.

The Chairman's Award for outstanding service to the Association was given to Ron Flynn. N.J.I.T. / Croxton Terminal, Norfolk Southern Railroad, operated by H & M International Transportation, Inc., was honored as the most Outstanding Off-Pier Intermodal Terminal and the award for maintaining the Best Equipment in the Port of New York-New Jersey went to Co-Op Chassis Pool. Inc. The Most Improved Terminal award went to Global Terminals, Inc. of Jersey City, NJ.

Seven individuals were also recognized for outstanding customer service to the trucking community during the past year. They are Ray Salgueirdo of Global Terminals, Eric Hansen of APM Terminals, Peggy Monaco of Maher Terminals, Crystal Bracey of PNCT Terminals, Maureen Kasakowski of New York Container Terminal, Judy Hoatling of N.J.I.T. Terminal, and Ted Thorn of APL Terminal.
