Chrysler Group Manufacturing Executive Receives 'Corporate Achievement Award' From Organization of Chinese Americans
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Oct. 31, 2003 -- Richard Chow-Wah, Chrysler Group Vice President--Power Train Manufacturing and Power Train Core Team Leader, is recipient of the "2003 National Asian American Corporate Achievement Award" from the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) at the 12th-annual National Asian American Corporate Achievement Awards ceremony. Chow-Wah is being recognized for his contributions at the corporate level and for his commitment to the Asian-American community.
"Richard Chow-Wah has been a role model in developing opportunities for diverse employees, and brings incredible value to his profession and to the DaimlerChrysler enterprise," said Tom LaSorda, Chrysler Group Executive Vice President--Manufacturing and Co-Chair of Chrysler Group's Diversity Council. "It is a great honor to have the Organization of Chinese Americans recognize Richard for his contributions within the company and in the community as a whole."
Chow-Wah, who has been with the Chrysler Group since 1994, is a member of the Company's Diversity Council. He also serves as executive sponsor of the DaimlerChrysler Asian Network (DCAN), an employee resource group, where he coaches and mentors Asian-American employees. He expanded DCAN's scope by encouraging individuals from various Arab nations, India, Korea, the Philippines, and Japan to join. Chow-Wah recently spearheaded the DaimlerChrysler Bone Marrow Drive, which resulted in a significant increase of Asian Americans on the registry.
A community leader, Chow-Wah serves as an advisor to the Chinese Association of Greater Detroit. He also has sponsored volunteers at various grass-roots organizations, such as local soup kitchens and "Paint the Town" events to improve neighborhoods in Detroit.
At Chrysler Group, Chow-Wah manages all Power Train operations and oversees strategic planning, product development and manufacturing facilities worldwide. He manages 12 manufacturing plants with over 16,000 employees, and joint ventures with various companies including BMW, Hyundai Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation.
The awards ceremony is tonight at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown, New York.
The OCA is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the well being and interests of Asian Americans in the U.S. through advocacy as well as by providing educational and other networking opportunities. One of the organization's objectives is to promote meaningful partnerships and business opportunities between businesses and the Asian American communities through the OCA Business Advisory Council.
