MTS Secures Exclusive Rights to Use Digital Video Overlay Technology From Dartfish for Automotive Safety Engineering

Dartfish's Patented Video Technology - Seen by Millions During Broadcast Of World-Class Sporting Events, Including 2002 Winter Olympics - Now Used to Help Make Safer Vehicles

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Oct. 28 -- MTS Systems Corporation , a global supplier of testing products that help customers accelerate and improve their design, development and manufacturing processes, today announced it has secured exclusive rights to utilize patented digital video overlay technology from Dartfish USA for automotive safety engineering applications. Through the agreement, Dartfish's overlay technology will be incorporated into MTS' software products to help automobile manufacturers better calibrate virtual product designs with real-world safety tests.

Dartfish's technology is heavily used in the sports training market and has been seen by millions of viewers during several world-class sporting events. For example, it was used by broadcasters during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games to blend the performances of competing downhill skiers onto one video clip to show subtle differences in technique and when one skier pulled ahead of the other.

Initially, MTS has incorporated Dartfish's technology into its Safedesign(TM) Insight video analysis and validation software, which it will introduce later this week at Testing Expo 2003 North America in Detroit. Safedesign Insight marks the first application of Dartfish's pioneering technology for automotive safety engineering.

"We are proud to be the first and only automotive testing supplier to utilize this cutting-edge technology for safety engineering," said Doug Marinaro, vice president of MTS Software and Consulting. "The fully automated synchronization of the Dartfish technology, in conjunction with our software, gives MTS a competitive advantage within the testing market. This technology allows our customers to get the most out of each test they perform, increasing productivity and reducing costs. And, most importantly, our customers use of this application will ultimately lead to the design and development of safer vehicles."

"The evolution of Dartfish's technology from the sports training arena into the automotive testing market is logical," said Victor Bergonzoli, president for Dartfish. "We are very pleased to be working with MTS, the industry leader in automobile safety testing. The integration of our technology with their software products will have an immediate impact, as it will eliminate the subjective technique currently employed by engineers to calibrate virtual models with physical safety tests."
