Cosworth Technology, Inc., Teradyne, Partner to Offer Assembly Test Solutions to Ford Global Manufacturing

NOVI, Mich.--Oct. 2, 20038, 2003--Ford Motor Company has chosen Cosworth Technology Inc, and Teradyne Diagnostic Solutions as the next generation providers for its assembly line vehicle test and configuration requirements. The new electronic Customer Acceptance Test System (eCATS) combines strengths from both Cosworth Technology and Teradyne and is currently being launched as the primary end-of-line (EOL) test application for vehicles manufactured in over 33 Ford manufacturing facilities worldwide.

The eCATS system comprises of a number of networked test stations running from a readily accessible clustered database, also linked with the plant vehicle broadcast system. The test stations are configured to perform specialist test sequences through the Cosworth Technology, VAT(TM) tool against specific market variants. These tests are performed across not only static cells, but also rolling road testing, ensuring all aspects of the vehicle is validated. Ford's assembly process presents a unique challenge due to the high level of automotive technology and vehicle options available to a Ford customer. The eCATS system manages these problems in a user-friendly and flexible manner.

Increased productivity is the key benefit that Ford engineers and assembly plant management derive from Cosworth Technology's VAT(TM) system. Engineers are able to quickly build and prove out complex test sequences using the suite of functions and debug tools available in Cosworth Technology's VAT's(TM) authoring environment. The test sequences are easily modified locally to match the requirements of each plant's build configuration using Option Modifications. Specific module programming configurations are automatically developed from engineering data with import tools. These tools allow implementation of production testing early in the design cycle. This advantage, along with the dramatically improved cycle times achieved in production testing with Cosworth Technology's VAT's(TM) runtime, provides real value to Ford's engineering groups and assembly plants.
