Oshkosh Subsidiary Geesink Norba Group Introduces Next Generation of GPM Refuse Rear Loader

OSHKOSH, Wis.--Oct. 2, 20037, 2003--Oshkosh Truck Corporation announced today that its subsidiary, Geesink Norba Group, Europe's leading manufacturer of refuse collection bodies, has unveiled a new line of rear loader. Called GPM III, this is the third generation of Geesink's best selling product line and the first to feature a smooth-sided body for greater packing capability. The curved body design provides added strength and durability to help reduce maintenance costs and is equipped with a host of high-tech features to increase productivity for refuse haulers on a variety of routes.

"Oshkosh strives to lead the industry in product development and refuse-hauling technology that help our customers work more safely, more efficiently and more effectively. This new refuse collection body design benefits from the combined engineering expertise of our European and U.S. refuse subsidiaries. It provides a common platform for future product development in the European and North American markets," said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

The new GPM III rear loader features Command Zone(R) electronics and the Smart Pack(R) system as standard to increase productivity for every load. Command Zone electronics allow the driver to diagnose the entire system from the cab using an information display screen and can be used to troubleshoot the vehicle from a remote location.

The SmartPack system was designed by the Geesink Norba Group to provide up to 20% fuel economy during normal route operations. This packing system includes a variable hydraulic pump and proportional valves that sense exactly how much pressure is needed for efficient operations. The system controls the pump's oil flow and distributes the flow at optimal levels to reduce energy loss during packing operations. This results in fuel savings, lower emissions and the shortest cycle times in the industry.
