DRIVER NOTES AND QUOTES
MOTOROCK TRANS-AM TOUR FOR THE BFGOODRICH TIRES CUP
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26 POST-RACE
SCOTT PRUETT, DRIVER OF THE NO. 7 MOTOROCK/JAGUAR R PERFORMANCE XKR, STARTED
ON THE POLE, LEAD THE MOST LAPS, BUT SHEARED TWO RIGHT HUB DRIVE PINS, AND
FINISHED 13THŠWON THE BFGOODRICH TIRES ³TAKE CONTROL² AWARD.
NOTE 1 BACKGROUND STATSŠClinched his third Trans-Am Drivers¹ Championship
with his win in MiamiŠIn 2003, has eight wins (St. Petersburg, Mosport,
Infineon Raceway, Cleveland, Trois-Rivieres, Road America, Denver, and
Miami) in 11 startsŠStarted on the pole nine timesŠIn August, raced in the
Winston Cup event at Watkins Glen, scoring a career-best second placeŠIn
June, competed in the Winston Cup race at Infineon Raceway finishing 24th
due to contact while running sixthŠTwo previous Trans-Am Drivers¹
Championships in 1987 and 1994ŠIn 2002, did not compete in the Trans-Am
TourŠCompeted in Winston Cup Series in 2000Š Competed several seasons in
CART Champ Car Series, scoring two winsŠHas two IMSA GTO Drivers¹
Championships (1986, 1988).
On the problem near the end of the raceŠ ³It turns out we sheared two right
hub drive pins. I felt a vibration and thought maybe I had run over debris
and a tire might be going down. But the wheel was lose on the hub because
of the drive pin deal, not a tire problem. It¹s just one of those things
that happen in racing.
³But except for not winning the race, I couldn¹t be more proud or pleased
for the Rocketsports team and Jaguar. We came here really being the
underdog with less horsepower and less torque. But as I¹ve said, this is
the new era of Trans-Am racing. The V-8, how long has it been around with
ongoing development 20 years? This is just the first step for us. We
started with a concept and very nearly won in its first outing. What
Rocketsports has done with the help and support of Jaguar in nothing less
than spectacular.²
On the podium finishes for his Rocketsports teammatesŠ ³I very pleased for
Wally. It was great for him, our team, the Puerto Rico Grand Prix, and the
Puerto Rico fans. It was great to see Tomy finish off his season with a
podium finish.²
