Bobby Sak Takes Outside Pole for the Puerto Rico Grand Prix
Second quickest behind Pole Sitter Scott Pruett
San Juan PR – Oct. 25, 2003 – Qualifying with the lead group at the
2003 Trans-Am Series Motorock Tour for the BFGoodrich Cup Puerto Rico
Grand Prix, Bobby Sak will start the #10 Revolution Motorsports
Corvette from the outside pole for Sunday’s inaugural race. Bobby
qualified second with 1:06.160.
“Everything seems to be coming together,” said a pleased Sak. “The car
was extremely close yesterday and with the adjustments the crew made
and the way the track is coming in, it was pretty comfortable out
there… except the heat. It’s warm.”
In a season dominated by Scott Pruett and the Jaguars, Sak’s qualifying
position marks the first time in the 2003 Trans-Am season that a
Corvette will start from the front row.
Jorge Diaz Jr. qualified third and leads the chase for the Rookie of
the Year title by 27 points. While both rookies picked up a bonus
qualifying point, Jorge will need to finish 17th or better to clinch it.
Regarding his rookie battle with Diaz Jr., Sak commented; “I just have
to go out there and win this race. Jorge is in control of his own
destiny. His performance will determine the outcome of the Rookie of
the Year title. Either way, it’s been a privilege and fun to race with
him. It’s been a good friendly competition and I think we’ve both got a
lot to be proud of. It’s been a great year.”
Don Sak [#2 Revolution Motorsports Corvette] improved his time over
Friday practice and will start in the 13th spot.
“We’ve still got a little work to do,” said Sak. “But, all-in-all the
car felt good. To be honest, I’m so excited about Bobby’s run… I
couldn’t be happier. He’s had such a great year…. I’m out here having
fun and enjoying watching my son do well. What more could I ask for?”
