Automotive Legend Carroll Shelby Honored With Exhibit At The Petersen Automotive Museum

'Carroll Shelby: A Life in the Fast Lane' Exhibit Debuts - October 24, 2003 Through March 28, 2004 at The Petersen Automotive Museum

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 23 -- Legendary automotive icon Carroll Shelby will be honored at The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles with a powerful, performance-packed exhibit showcasing the life and career of legendary automotive entrepreneur Carroll Shelby when Carroll Shelby: A Life in the Fast Lane debuts Friday, October 24, 2003. From a one- time race car driver to chairman and chief executive officer of Carroll Shelby International, Inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: CSBI) , the exhibit will highlight every aspect of his amazing career.

The first exhibit ever to honor an individual at the Petersen, the display will document the personal achievements of one of America's most celebrated names in motorsports and the father of the Cobra and Shelby Mustang performance cars which have shaped a generation of performance vehicles. Shelby's enormous effect on the automotive world will be highlighted for Museum visitors through a series of graphic displays and backdrops surrounding an amazing collection of some of the finest and most collectible of Shelby's hallmark vehicles.

Examples of every significant vehicle raced, built or influenced by Carroll Shelby will be displayed along with little-known archival materials that document Shelby's incredible career as a world-class driving champion and, most notably, his prestigious 1959 victory at Le Mans. The exhibit also details his colorful career as a team manager and how he changed the face of sports cars as a successful manufacturer both of racing and road cars.

In addition to his illustrious driving and managing careers, Shelby also worked as a consultant on some of the auto industry's most entrepreneurial projects. He still markets one of the largest international chili cook-off events and over the years, has sponsored a number of charities including his involvement with his own charity, the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.

From the first Cobra to the Dodge Viper he helped create, the entire Shelby automotive legacy will be documented, including such notable landmark vehicles as:

   * 1962 Shelby Cobra CSX 2000 - the very first Cobra built
   * 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 - the 24 Hours of LeMans class winner
   * 1965 Shelby Mustang - the car that launched the "pony car" genre
   * 1969 Ford GT40 - the LeMans winner from the team captained by Shelby
   * 1992 Dodge Viper pilot production car - the standard for a new breed
      of performance car
   * 1999 Shelby Series I - one of the latest thoroughbreds from the Shelby
      stable

In addition, the exhibit will celebrate Shelby's recent 80th birthday, display scenes from the racetrack and his dealership and offer a "taste" of his renowned Carroll Shelby Chili Mix.

Carroll Shelby: A Life in the Fast Lane exhibit will be on display from October 24, 2003 through March 28, 2004 at The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.
