Johnson Controls Continues Growth in Asia, Showcases its Products at 2003 Tokyo Auto Show
Company Steadily Develops in the Region To Meet Its Customers' Needs Worldwide
TOKYO, Oct. 23 -- Reflecting its commitment to meeting the needs of Asian customers, leading automotive interior supplier Johnson Controls will display its latest products at the Tokyo Motor Show. The event runs from Friday, October 24 through Wednesday, November 5 at the Nippon Convention Center.
Johnson Controls' product and technology display, located in room W408 of the West Hall will showcase the company's complete range of interior systems, including overhead, door, seating, electronics and cockpit systems. Highlights include Johnson Controls' Leap(R) automotive seating system; the Overhead Rail System; and instrument clusters.
"Our worldwide capability in design, product development and manufacturing is strengthened by continued efforts to expand our presence in the Asia- Pacific region," said Jeff Edwards, group vice president and general manager of North America / Japan for the Automotive Group of Johnson Controls. "Being a part of the Tokyo Motor Show is one way we're showing our commitment to understanding the distinctive needs of our automaker customers in this important market and around the world."
In the past six years, Johnson Controls has expanded its design, manufacturing and customer service capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region. This includes:
-- expanding its Automotive Group's Japan business office and engineering technical center in Yokohama in 1997; -- acquiring Ikeda Bussan Co., Ltd. - a Japan-based manufacturer of automotive seats and long-time joint venture partner, in 2000; and -- opening an Asian Design Center in Ayase City, Kanagawa, Japan in 2001, where designers, three-dimensional modelers and engineers work on new product development, prototyping and modeling for regional customers.
Johnson Controls, together with its joint-venture partners, operates 33 facilities in Asia, including manufacturing operations, engineering and technical centers in China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand. The company has approximately 9,200 employees in the region.
Currently, the company supplies interior products for more than 110 vehicle models produced in Asia. Its customers include such Asian-based automakers as Daewoo, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Mazda, Nissan, Proton, Tata and Toyota. Johnson Controls also supports its North American and European customers -- including Audi, DaimlerChrysler, Ford, General Motors, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Renault, Volkswagen and Volvo -- as they expand their presence in Asia.
