NASCAR Teams Turn to Mobil 1 for On-Track Performance; Seventy-Four Percent of NASCAR Drivers Use Mobil 1 for Engine Protection

FAIRFAX, Va.--Oct. 2, 20032, 2003--Many of NASCAR's top racing teams have found one common key ingredient to on-track performance -- the motor oil. In a recent survey of teams in NASCAR's three major divisions, 119 out of the 160 cars that regularly race in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, the NASCAR Busch Series and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series use Mobil 1(R) motor oil in their racecars. That's 74 percent of NASCAR drivers who rely on the protection and performance of the world's best-selling synthetic motor oil.

As of October 13, 2003, drivers using Mobil 1 with SuperSyn(TM) anti-wear technology in their racecars have won 57 of the 82 races this year, and have accumulated 267 top-five finishes. That means that in 70 percent of the NASCAR races in all three series, a car lubricated with and protected by Mobil 1 took the ride to victory lane.

As NASCAR drivers jockey for position on the track each week, their teams are constantly looking for a competitive advantage to increase the performance of their racecars. Mobil 1, the "Official Motor Oil of NASCAR," offers engine protection under the most extreme conditions, such as the high RPM and high-temperatures experienced in competitive motorsports, making it the perfect choice for NASCAR drivers.

"It holds true that the best drivers are using the best products," said Ryan Newman, NASCAR Winston Cup driver for the Penske Racing Team. Newman is currently fourth in the NASCAR Winston Cup point standings and the only driver to win eight races this year. "In order to win, you need to be able to push everything to the limit, and Mobil 1 has allowed my car and my team to perform at a higher level and to race in ways we never could before."

"Mobil 1's on-track success reinforces our claim that nothing outperforms Mobil 1 -- both on track and off," said Marni Mirowitz, automotive marketing manager - Americas, ExxonMobil Lubricants & Specialties. "The motoring public can receive the same proven performance benefits in their automobiles as those experienced by NASCAR's top teams."

This is ExxonMobil's 13th season as a sponsor of Penske Racing with 2003 team drivers Rusty Wallace -- 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion, and Ryan Newman -- 2002 Raybestos NASCAR Rookie of the Year. Customers throughout the world have relied on Mobil lubricants for more than 130 years. Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of Mobil 1, which is marketed in nearly 200 countries and territories.
