Shine Award a Highlight of the 2003 SEMA Show
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Oct. 20, 2003 -- Once again, the question on everyone's mind at the upcoming SEMA show in Las Vegas will be, "Who is going to win the coveted Shine Award?" Bestowed by Mothers(R) Polishes-Waxes- Cleaners, a company known worldwide for its premium-quality car care products, this trophy for automotive excellence is widely regarded as the most prestigious honor to receive at this premier event of the automotive industry.
The Mothers(R) Shine Award takes on even more significance this year with noted custom-car builders Troy and Jack Trepanier serving on the judges' panel. Last year this father and son team of Rad Rides by Troy won the Shine Award with the Chicayne, a 1962 Chevy Biscayne with a 1200-hp twin-turbo V-8 under its cypress-green hood.
Returning to present the Mothers(R) Shine Award for the second consecutive year is automotive icon Robert E. Petersen, founder of numerous automotive magazines and the Petersen Automotive Museum. Last year Mr. Petersen presented 11 Mothers(R) Choice Awards as well, one of which went to a '56 Chevy owned by TV comedian Chris Titus.
In its inaugural year, the 2001 Shine Award went to the "NewMad," a spectacular street rod designed by Chris Ito, built by Steve Frisbie, and owned by Dave Hall. This pinnacle of the car-builder's craft melded the classic features of a 1955 Nomad with the latest innovations in artistry, design, and craftsmanship.
The Shine trophy, artfully crafted in the shape of a detailer's towel swirling upward like a curling flame, is 20 pounds of magnificent hand-forged bronze commissioned by Mothers(R), designed by legendary automotive builder Chip Foose and sculpted by renowned automotive artist Steve Posson.
