Chemical Management Services Workshop Will Show How to Cut Chemical Use And Waste
Major Automaker Cuts Chemical Use an Average of 30% Through Innovative Chemical Supplier Partnerships
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 16 -- Representatives from General Motors, United Technologies Corporation, Boeing Company, and Delphi Corporation will share experiences of how their innovative supplier partnerships optimized chemical use and reduced waste at a workshop on October 23rd in Detroit, Michigan. The workshop will educate manufacturers about reducing chemical use and waste while driving down costs using Chemical Management Services (CMS). The nonprofit Chemical Strategies Partnership and its membership group, the CMS Forum, are hosting the workshop to share best practices in CMS.
CMS involves a strategic partnership with a chemical service provider who performs some or all of the chemical management for a facility. "Manufacturers who are interested in streamlining their supply chain, who want to cut costs while enhancing their environmental performance should not pass up this opportunity," says Jill Kauffman Johnson, Executive Director of Chemical Strategies Partnership (CSP). "Companies with whom we have worked have cut their chemical costs dramatically by adopting CMS. One semiconductor facility cut its chemical consumption by 50 percent, and significantly reduced its hazardous waste with its CMS program."
The October 23rd workshop will address concerns of managers from a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, air transport, and electronics. General Motors, a leader in CMS for the past decade, will host the event. Mike Knoblock at GM's Worldwide Facilities Group notes, "Every facility GM in which has implemented the chemicals management program, the total chemical usage reduction averages around 30%."
CSP's 7th annual workshop, The Growing Trend of CMS, will feature speakers from General Motors, United Technologies Corporation, Boeing Company, and Delphi Corporation who will discuss the results of their CMS programs. Breakout sessions will also explore topics like international trends, expanded services, information technology, and CMS in small facilities.
Chemical Strategies Partnership (CSP), based in San Francisco, is a national non-profit that promotes CMS to achieve environmental benefits in manufacturing. To learn more visit www.chemicalstrategies.org.
