NOTES OF INTEREST: This year's Big Daddy's Liberty 200 at South Boston Speedway, in conjunction with the same-day USAC Midget Series event, will be the second appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at the renowned southern Virginia short-track. Defending race winner/polesitter Ken Schrader has again entered for this year's classic in his own Federated Auto Parts-sponsored Pontiac. Schrader has 9 career RE/MAX Series wins in a variety of tracks including short-tracks, superspeedways, dirt-tracks and road courses. Schrader will also be competing in the same-weekend NASCAR Winston Cup & Craftsman Truck Series events at nearby Martinsville Speedway. Native Virginian and NASCAR veteran Hermie Sadler, who is also entered in the Winston Cup event at Martinsville, is also entered in the SoBo ARCA race. Sadler, who finished 2nd at MIS in his ARCA RE/MAX debut in June, cut his teeth at South Boston in the late model stock divisions. Open-wheel standout Aaron Fike is entered in both the ARCA RE/MAX race and the USAC Midget race at South Boston. Chattanooga TN driver/pilot Spencer Morgan is scheduled to make his ARCA RE/MAX Series debut in the #49 Hixson Motorsports Pontiac. Spencer, the chief pilot for MB2 and MBV Motorsports, will be running a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix from the MBV Motorsports stables. Second-generation ARCA driver David Ragan, son of former NASCAR/ARCA driver Ken Ragan, has also filed an entry. In addition, FitzBradshaw Racing has filed an entry with sprint car driver Blake Feese listed as the driver. Feese, who'll make his career-first RE/MAX Series attempt at SoBo, garnered national headlines earlier this year with World of Outlaw sprint car wins at Lowe's Motor Speedway and Knoxville. Frank Kimmel has already secured the 2003 ARCA RE/MAX Series championship, his fifth series title in the last six seasons. Jason Jarrett needs only to show up and compete in order to lock up second in points. However, points for third through sixth are extremely tight separated by less than 100 points and will depend completely on the outcome of South Boston. Shelby Howard, at 17, became the youngest winner in series history with his victory at Salem earlier this year. Howard also notched his name in the record books as ARCA's youngest superspeedway winner in history with his win at Kansas in June. Howard turned 18 in July. Sons of former ARCA RE/MAX Series champions entered include Billy Venturini and Todd Bowsher. Billy's father Bill Venturini racked up ARCA titles in '87 & '91 while Todd's father and current car owner Jack Bowsher won 3 consecutive crowns in '63, '64 & '65.
