TROY, Mich., Oct. 13 -- Delphi Product & Service Solutions, part of Delphi Corp. , announced today the introduction of Delphi Mobile Navigation, a world-class GPS navigation unit (GPS) for the consumer market. This simple, easy to use, aesthetically pleasing hand-held device offers full visual interface, voice prompts, large icons and an alphanumeric display. The Delphi Mobile Navigation unit will be available at consumer electronics retailers for $899 (MAP) later this month.
This high performance unit is packaged by a strong, durable silver magnesium alloy case and includes a reliable windshield mounting solution -- a first in the GPS industry. The unit is also one of the most compact and lightweight of its kind.
"We are very proud to bring the strength of Delphi's Navigation Products to the aftermarket with this state of the art Navigation Unit," said Francisco A. (Frank) Ordonez, president of Delphi Product & Service Solutions. "Delphi is already one of the world leaders in manufacturing automotive navigation products -- in fact, Delphi was first to market. Now we will bring our strength in this category directly to the consumer."
The Delphi Mobile Navigation unit is your new travel companion. With state-of-the-art GPS technology and a user-friendly interface, the Delphi Mobile Navigation unit helps get you to your final destination quickly and efficiently. Mapping a trip has never been so easy, all you need is your final destination (address, point-of-interest, or intersection) and the Delphi Mobile Navigation unit does the rest.
It provides several functions including quickest route, shortest route, full automatic turn-by-turn directions synchronized with vehicle position, total distance to destination, estimated time of arrival, automatic rerouting, address search by name, street crossing, zip code or center-of-town and memorization for favorite locations, short-cuts and most recent locations.
The unit uses a double disk map set of the United States (excluding Alaska), so that you can easily load your desired maps. The Windows(R)-based PC maps load to 64 MB of built-in memory with 256 MB of additional map storage available through a built-in expandable Secure Digital (SD) or Multi-Media Card (MMC) slot. Users can start enjoying the benefits of this exceptional new unit after walking through the simple set up process.
The Delphi Mobile Navigation unit employs the latest in ultra-clear, ultra-bright, color thin film transistor (TFT) LCD screens and features a reliable integrated, high precision wide area augmentation system (WAAS) GPS receiver. The unit also uses the low-power, high-performance Intel(R) PXA250 Applications Processor with Intel(R) XScale(TM) Technology.
The unit's intuitive graphical user interface is powered by custom navigation software, which provides detailed street-level mapping for the 48 contiguous states and Hawaii (Western European maps sold separately), address- to-address routing, automatic rerouting when off-course and an extensive points-of-interest library. Large display icons and easy-to-read maps provide an operator-friendly interface for added safety while driving. The software is fully automatic and provides voice directions in addition to visual driving instructions.
