Toyota and EMC Accelerate Alliance

NAGOYA, Japan and HOPKINTON, Mass.--Oct. 9, 2003--

EMC Corporation Remains Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) Official Information Infrastructure Provider

Toyota Motorsport GmbH's (TMG) and EMC Corporation strengthened their alliance today with a three-year extension of their business and technology agreement. In a business where the ability to collect, analyze and quickly act on information means the difference between success and failure, EMC and TMG's Panasonic Toyota Racing team will build on their collaboration to improve race-day competitiveness through the use of sophisticated automated networked storage technologies.

EMC and TMG will continue to collaborate on solutions to manage the collection, movement, use and storage of race-day information as well to streamline the use of information in the car design and testing processes. During each race weekend, real-time track statistics are collected from the vehicle, and transmitted to the design, manufacturing, quality and safety teams in Toyota's Cologne, Germany facility before being archived there.

TMG Team Principal Ove Andersson, said, "Each time we're on the track we generate an incredible amount of information that we immediately use to improve competitiveness for the next race or qualifying session. We need an information infrastructure provider that can deliver a seamless infrastructure to manage large amounts of information as it changes in value through its short two-week lifecycle. EMC is that company and we have come to rely on them as our trusted advisor."

With today's announcement, EMC will assume a more strategic role with the addition of services expertise and increased brand presence through EMC logo placement in more areas on the car and the drivers uniforms.

David Goulden, EMC Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and New Business Development said, "Aside from the value of our association with the prestigious Toyota brand, EMC continues to be extremely impressed with TMG's belief in information as the key to competitive Formula 1 racing. As the official 'Information Infrastructure Provider' we'll work together to enhance and expand the solutions we've built to extract the maximum value from TMG's critical race-day information."

In 2001, EMC and TMG began development of an innovative automated networked storage environment that helped TMG utilize information gained from each race to gain success in the technology-driven Formula 1 circuit. At TMG's production and research facility in Cologne, Germany, EMC and TMG engineers work together further developing and maintaining the specialized information infrastructure.
