Wavecom Launches Automotive Development Lab with First All-in-One GSM-GPRS and GPS Module; New WISMO Quik Q2501 Simplifies Integrated Wireless/GPS Development

ISSY-LES-MOULINEAUX, France--Oct. 9, 2003--Wavecom SA today announced the launch of its Automotive Development Lab, the most comprehensive wireless technology solution for automotive applications currently available. Designed to enable customers to develop and implement advanced and high-performance wireless automotive systems, the Automotive Development Lab provides a complete suite of hardware, software, development tools and services.

In addition, Wavecom introduces a new WISMO hardware platform within the Automotive Development Lab, the WISMO Quik Q2501, adapted to the particular needs of the automotive industry. WISMO Quik Q2501 is the only product currently available to combine dual band GSM/GPRS with GPS capabilities in a single fully integrated module (58 x 32 x 6 mm). It offers dual operating modes -- either standalone, giving direct access to GPS data independent of GSM connectivity; or GSM Master, linking GPS data with GSM.

GPS data can be integrated into voice, SMS/EMS or data applications, and full 16 channel GPS support is offered, making the GPS component of the product the most accurate currently available on the market. The module has full automotive environmental qualification (temperature, humidity, vibration, etc.) approval, and is also GCF and R&TTE compliant. The WISMO Quik Q2501 is dual band (900/1800 Mhz), and GSM/GPRS Class 10 compliant.

In terms of software, the Automotive Development Lab offers IP connectivity protocols such as TCP/IP, POP3 and SMTP, as well as MQIsdp (Websphere) protocols. Furthermore, customers benefit from Wavecom's MUSE Platform development tool Open AT, with a full set of more than 550 AT commands, including a dedicated GPS set. Open AT enables customers to embed supplementary protocols directly onto the module. The service offering provided by the Automotive Development Lab includes development support, Open AT training, manufacturing support and certification support.

Olivier Beaujard, Vertical Applications Marketing Director from Wavecom, commented: "The automotive applications market continues to grow rapidly -- we estimate that the global market for wireless automotive application (using GSM/GPRS or CDMA technologies) will reach 11 million units by 2006, compared with just 2.9 million units this year. By adding GPS functionality to our product offering, we are responding directly to our automotive customers' demand, and continuing to facilitate flexible development environments with a cost-efficient solution. We look forward to continuing to contribute our innovations to the automotive industry."

Wavecom already has a long history of working with leading automotive equipment manufacturers such as Autoliv, Magneti Marelli, Siemens VDO and Trimble. Wavecom's technology solutions have also been used to provide wireless connectivity for a wide range of applications for professional use in the transportation sector, including alarms, fleet management, logistics management and tracking systems.

Wavecom's Automotive Development Lab is available now. The WISMO Quik Q2501 will be available in the second quarter of 2004.
