Mexico vehicle output and exports down in September
MEXICO CITY, Oct 8, 2003; Reuters reported that Mexico's auto industry produced 128,247 vehicles in September, down 10.6 percent from the same month last year, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) said on Wednesday. It also said exports by Mexico-based automakers totaled 102,675 units in the month, down 5.7 percent from September 2002. Mexico, is the 10th largest auto producer in the world. Major makers here include General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. , Volkswagen AG, DaimlerChrisyler AG. But output and exports have been hit by weak demand in the United States and other export markets. Vehicle exports from Mexico were down 10.3 percent and production down 14.8 percent in the first nine months of this year.
