Motorola Sponsors Green Car and Safe Driving Exposition
Events October 7-10 to Showcase Environmental Vehicles and Promote Safe Driving
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Oct 7 -- Motorola, Inc. is sponsoring a Green Car and Safe Driving Exposition Oct. 7-10 at several Motorola campuses in the Chicago area to showcase alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs), advanced technology hybrid vehicles, and low emissions vehicles. In addition, the expo will promote driving safety.
The exposition will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the following dates and campuses:
- Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Motorola's Arlington Heights campus, 1475 W. Shure Dr.; - Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Motorola's Libertyville campus, 600 North U.S. 45; - Thursday, Oct. 9, at Motorola's Schaumburg campus, 1301 E. Algonquin Rd.; and - Friday, Oct. 10, at Motorola's Deer Park campus, 21440 W. Lake Cook Rd. The expo is open to the Motorola Employees and the community.
Vehicles from Schaumburg Honda, Schaumburg Toyota, Lattof Chevrolet, Sessler Ford, Liberty Auto Plaza, Bernard Chevrolet, and Pauly Honda will be on display. Vehicle availability will vary at each campus. Thanks to Schaumburg Toyota, Motorola's Green Car Expo will be the first location where the newly designed 2004 Toyota Prius, with Hybrid Synergy Drive(R), will be available for viewing in the Chicago area. In addition, information will be available about vehicle emissions, alternative fuels, and tax incentives (such as the $2000 tax incentive for eligible hybrid vehicles, www.fueleconomy.gov).
According to the Clean Cities Coalition, the United States spends about $2 billion a week on oil imports, mostly for transportation fuel. This need for oil affects national security as well as transportation budgets. Also, vehicle emissions are the leading source of air pollution, which has been shown to jeopardize health. There are solutions to these issues. Vehicles powered by domestically produced, clean alternative fuels and other energy-efficient, advanced technology vehicles can help reduce our dependence on imported oil, and improve air quality. Motorola is a member of the Chicago Area Clean Cities Coalition.
In honor of Network of Employers for Traffic Safety's (NETS) Drive Safely Work Week (DSWW), the expo will also promote safe driving. DSWW focuses on the positive actions each driver can take to ensure their safety and the safety of others as they drive for work or commute to and from work. The Illinois State Police will be at the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg sites with their Rollover Simulator, which is designed to demonstrate the importance of wearing seat belts.
