Safelite President Announces Retirement; New President & Chief Executive Officer Appointed

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 7, 2003 -- The Board of Directors of Safelite Glass Corp. announced today that John Barlow, Safelite's President & Chief Executive Officer, has informed the Board that he will be retiring effective November 30, 2003. Dan Wilson, the company's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, has been appointed Safelite's new President & Chief Executive Officer.

Barlow joined Safelite in 1991 as Chief Operating Officer and has served as the company's President & Chief Executive Officer since 1997. Under his leadership, the company implemented a number of initiatives designed to improve customer service, operational efficiency and employee retention. These include Safelite's nationally recognized Performance Pay Plan for installation technicians, service- and productivity-focused mobile auto glass operations and new technologies to support the company's growing claims management business.

Dan Wilson, who joined the company in 1999, has assumed the position of President & Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Safelite, Wilson served as the President of Western Auto-Parts America and held leadership positions with Wal-Mart, where he was responsible for hardlines merchandising for the Hyper-Super Market Division.
