NAASCAR: Terry Borcheller - Virginia preview

Terry Borcheller is chasing crucial points in two championships this weekend, 
with races in the Rolex Sports Car Series and Grand-Am Cup.  Both races will 
be held on the 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway road course in Alton, 
Va.  Borcheller, of Phoenix, and Forest Barber of Fort Worth, Tex., will pilot 
the No. 54 Bell Motorsports BMW M3 in the Grand-Am Cup race on Oct. 4 and the 
No. 54 Bell Motorsports Doran JE4 Daytona Prototype in the Rolex Series race 
on Oct. 5.

The team and drivers are in contention for championships in both series, 
leading the Grand-Am Cup GSII standings and a close third in the Rolex Series.  
Borcheller says the double deal adds a lot of pressure for the Florida-based 
team.

"We have to win the next two races in order to win the championship in the 
Daytona Prototype.  It's not completely in our hands, but it's still very 
attainable. We just have to win, so that's what we're going after," Borcheller said.

"It's pretty intense because we're in the championship with both cars, so 
it's a lot of pressure on the team and drivers.  It seems like double pressure!  
I've not been in this position with the same team and the same co-driver.  
It's a big credit to Bell Motorsports to be in the hunt for championships with 
both cars."

Borcheller competed in both the Rolex Series and Grand-Am Cup races at VIR in 
2002.  He set the SRPII race-lap record en route to the class win.  He 
admitted the track is one that suits his driving style.

"This is one of my favorite tracks.  I really like the flow of it.  It has a 
lot of different elements; it has some elevation changes, some high-speed 
rhythm sections, it's a driver's track," he noted.  "The Doran will be very 
similar to the Lola I drove last year.  It  was a light open-cockpit prototype, 
while the Daytona Prototypes aren't as agile. But the Daytona Prototypes have a 
lot of aerodynamic features that lend themselves to performance at VIR."

The Grand-Am Cup race will run Saturday, Oct. 4 from 3 pm to 6 pm.  The Rolex 
Sports Car Series race is set for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 12:30 pm to 3:15 pm.  
Both races will use the full 3.27-mile road course layout at Virginia 
International Raceway.  The Rolex Series race will air on SPEED Channel on Sunday, Oct. 
5 from 4 pm to 7 pm. The Grand-Am Cup race will be telecast on SPEED Channel 
on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1 pm to 3 pm.  all times ET
