Late Model Standout J.R. Roahrig Makes ASA Debut at Salem With Terry’s Motor Sports Pendleton, Ind. (September 29, 2003) – One of the top Late Model racers in the state of Indiana, J.R. Roahrig will make his ASA Racing Series debut at Salem Speedway on October  4  in  the  Pep  Boys  300  presented  by  Greased  Lightning  Orange  Blast. Roahrig  will  drive  for  the  No.  71  Terry’s  Motor  Sports  entry  with  sponsorship  backing from Terry’s Automotive Group and Cub Foods. “I’m looking forward to my debut at Salem. Everything came together so quickly with the No.  71  team,”  said  J.R.  Roahrig.  “Salem  isn’t  one  of  my  favorite  tracks,  but  I’ve  had some success there and the high-anked ovals. Experience with long distance races in the  NASCAR  Midwest  Series  will  be  a  huge  bonus  in  getting  adapted  to  the  ASA program. I want to thank team manger Tom Lampe for giving me an opportunity to race in ASA,” added Roahrig. Roahrig  has  driven  a  car  owned  by  Lampe  in  selected  Late  Model  Special  Events, winning races in Illinois at Grundy County Speedway. In a Sunoco Super Series event at the .54-mile oval of Salem in May of 1997, Roahrig finished  in  third  position,  directly  behind eventual series champion Kenny Tweedy and Brian  Rievley.  He  also  finished  third  at  Winchester  Speedway  in  2002,  one  of  the toughest high-banked tracks in short track racing. Roahrig has also enjoyed success on the  high-banked  oval  of  I-70  Speedway,  producing  several  impressive  runs  in  the NASCAR Midwest Series. Roahrig,  from  South  Bend,  Ind.,  captured  the  1989  track  championship  at  Plymouth Speedway and was also the 1990 titlist at New Paris Speedway. Then he advanced to the NASCAR Midwest Series, garnering a victory at I-44 Speedway in Lebanon, Mo., in June   of   1996.   Roahrig   finished   in   the   top   three   on   three   occasions   in   select appearances in the Sunoco Super Series during the 1997 season. In 2000, he returned to the Indiana-based Sunoco series at his home track at Plymouth, crossing the line in third. The following season, he raced a partial schedule, competing in  nine  events,  posting  six  top-five  finishes,  eight  top-tens  and  one  pole.  In  2002, Roahrig  collected  two  victories  at Angola  Motor  Speedway  and  Baer  Field  Speedway and placed sixth in the final standings. The 2003 season Roahrig ranks fifth in the Sunoco standings with one race remaining. He has scored three top-five finishes and seven top 10s. Roahrig produced a best finish of  second  at  Shady  Bowl  Speedway  in  Ohio.  He  also  racked  up  podium  finishes  at Angola Motor Speedway and at the Anderson 400. The 16th event of the 2003 ASA Racing Series is set for Saturday, October 4 at Salem Speedway in Salem, Ind. The Pep Boys 300 presented by Greased Lightning Orange Blast  takes  the  green  flag  at  8:00  p.m.  (Local)  and  will  be  telecast  live  on  PEE Channel.
