Terry Borcheller - Miami race
seeing yellow
Terry Borcheller scored a hard-earned finish in the American Le Mans Series
race in Miami on Sept. 27, dodging the crashes and debris that felled several
of his competitors. The Phoenix driver again teamed with Shane Lewis of
Jupiter, Fla., driving the No. 63 ACEMCO Motorsports Ferrari 360 Modena GT.
Lewis qualified 10th in the GT class with a time of 55.381 seconds on the
tight 1.22-mile temporary street circuit. Lewis drove the first 48 minutes of
the two-hour 45-minute race, moving up to seventh despite early contact with
another car that knocked the car's diffuser loose. Borcheller took the second
stint, pitted several times to repair the bodywork and finished eighth.
"I had a good stint and we ran pretty quick. But we just got hammered with
all the yellows [caution flags]. It seems every time there's a yellow, we're
right behind the leader," Borcheller said, explaining the team lost laps
because of its track position relative to the overall leader at the start of the
caution periods.
"But a lot of cars crashed and we came away relatively unscathed," he noted.

Borcheller will compete in two races at Virginia International Raceway in
Alton, Va. - a Grand-Am Cup race on Oct. 4 and a Rolex Sports Car Series race on
Oct. 5.
